Jali's red card for tackle in dispute

ANDILE Jali was the recipient of a harsh red card on Sunday, but his Belgian side KV Oostende went on to beat Standard Liege 3-2 for a morale-boosting win.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder could appeal against his pending suspension for the sending off after most commentators agreed that his tackle on Standard's Paul-Jose M'Poku in the 38th minute was a little late, but certainly not deserving of a straight red card.

Jali was defended by his teammates after the game, who said the injustice from the referee was what spurred them on to victory.

"Andile had absolutely no intention to mow M'poku to the ground," Oostende defender Niels De Schutter told reporters.

"You can clearly see on the pictures that he went in [to the tackle] with a flat foot. But with 10 men it forced us to work harder."

"That red card was a real slap in the face," said fellow defender Frédéric Brillant, while striker Sébastien Siani echoed those sentiments: "It is never easy with 11 players against Standard, so it is great to win with 10. It made everybody work twice as hard."

Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet sat out Kortrijk's 3-1 home win over Zulte-Waregem through suspension, but Anele Ngcongca played as Genk won 3-0 at home to Mechelen.

Kamohelo Mokotjo made a return to the side he left in August when his new club FC Twente won 2-1 against PEC Zwolle with the midfielder playing the full match.

Twente are third in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Lebogang Phiri was a late substitute for Brondby in their 1-0 win over SønderjyskE in Denmark that sees the side stay in fourth.
