ENTERTAINMENT and freebies. That is what Nakedi Chiloane, Telkom's sponsorship manager, reckons will be a crowd puller for the Telkom Knockout final between SuperSport United and Platinum Stars on November 29.

But in addressing the serious nature of the spectator dilemma, Premier Soccer League chief executive Brand de Villiers admitted filling Orlando Stadium will be a true test for his organisation's marketing department.

The encounter between Matsatsantsa and Dikwena is not the ideal cup final clash for sponsors, especially with the two teams having registered poor crowd attendances during their home matches in the Absa Premiership over the years.

Yesterday, after consulting with the two teams, De Villiers said Orlando Stadium - with a 40000 capacity - was the best venue for the final.

"It is all in marketing the game and upping our efforts because it is a known fact that some teams have more supporters than others," said De Villiers shortly after the announcement.

"I don't know what to expect, really. We are planning to have as many people as possible. I think 20000 to 30000 will be acceptable.

"With regards to the decision on the venue, we felt it was important to stage it where it is acceptable for the stature of the competition and not too far from where the supporters are for the two teams as they are based mainly in North West and Gauteng."

Since being refurbished ahead of the 2010 World Cup, the venue has hosted three cup finals. Moroka Swallows and United, who played in the 2012 MTN8 final, pulled in 8000 fans, which is the lowest number of spectators to date at the stadium.
