Khune recalls long walk with Senzo

ITUMELENG Khune shared a number of interesting and hilarious stories about him and Senzo Meyiwa, which brought smiles to the faces of those in mourning at the Standard Bank Arena yesterday.

Khune and Meyiwa go way back, as far back as 2002 when they first met at an interprovincial competition.

"We both started as strikers and we ended up playing in positions that were meant for us," the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper said yesterday at a memorial held for Meyiwa, Olympic silver medallist Mbulaeni Mulaudzi and woman boxer Phindile Mwelase.

The story that made the crowd laugh involves a long walk across Johannesburg.

"When I got promoted to the Chiefs first team I walked from Auckland Park to Mayfair to Senzo and I bought him some KFC. We were not just friends. We were brothers," Khune said. Meyi- wa returned the favour.
