Mulenga keen to rebound

AJAX Cape Town's new signing Clifford Mulenga is hoping his performances in the Premier Soccer League might prove a springboard to a return to the Zambian national team.

Mulenga has not played for his country since his controversial expulsion from the squad during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, which Zambia won.

But after joining the Cape Town club, he hopes to play his way back into contention.

"Most definitely, I've had a chat with the new coach [Honour Janza] recently. He told me that if I am playing well and get myself back into shape I could get a call-up soon."

Mulenga made his Ajax debut against AmaZulu last month after signing on a free transfer from Mpumalanga Black Aces but still has to bed down a regular place.

"I'm still struggling with my fitness and sharpness but once that is back I hope to be a real help to the team."
