ROYAL Eagles coach Duncan "King" Lechesa is excited with the acquisition of attacking midfielder Thulasizwe Mbuyane, whom he believes will help out in scoring goals.

Lechesa told Sowetan yesterday the 31-year-old will play a massive role in their challenge for promotion to the Premier Soccer League.

Mbuyane has signed a one-season contract with the ambitious Eagles after leaving Mpumalanga Black Aces. AmaZayoni terminated his contract after Eagles approached them on Tuesday, saying they needed a player of his stature before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

Mbuyane was signed by the KwaZulu-Natal side as a free agent. He joined Aces in January after signing a two-and-half-year deal, ending his six-year stay at Orlando Pirates.

"I'm delighted the chairman [Sbu Mpisane] bought Juju [Mbuyane] for us, Juju will add value because he is an experienced player who has an appetite for goals," said Lechesa.

"He used to score brilliant goals when he was still playing for Pirates.

"We wanted a striker who will score goals for us re-gularly. We were looking for Mabhuti Khenyeza, Rodney Ramagalela or Edward Manqele to beef up our attack. The problem is that their clubs made it clear to us the players were not available."

The coach, however, said he was happy with the team they had assembled, describing the squad "as a pretty good one".

"We are capable of challenging for promotion to the PSL. It's unfortunate we started on a bad note by losing [1-0] to Baroka FC in our opening league match at home on Friday but I was happy with our overall performance," Lechesa said.

"I expect a more improved performance when we play against Vasco da Gama in Cape Town on Sunday."

Some of the other players signed by Eagles include defenders Walter Maponyane and Thabo Mokgothi and goalkeeper Zama Dlamini from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Vasco got their 2014-2015 season off to a good start after beating Maluti FET College 1-0.
