Swallows look to bolster squad

MOROKA Swallows are hoping to add two more players to their squad in the final days of the transfer window.

Coach Zeca Marques confirmed to Sowetan that he needs more bodies with the squad too thin at present to sustain itself for a full season.

The club has been furiously searching for a striker. They have still not replaced on-loan Edward Manqele from last season, having had a number of trialists pass through, but without any being offered a contract.

And Marques reveals they are also looking to add a central midfielder to their group, a task that may now seem more urgent after the coach revealed that captain Lefa Tsutsulupa will be out for eight weeks.

"We have 23 players at the moment and ideally we would like [to have] 26," says Marques. "But we are definitely looking to add a striker and a midfielder."

Swallows do still have one of their five "foreign" positions open and in recent months have looked at Nigerian forward Peter Nwadike, who spent last season with Jomo Cosmos, and ex-Bloemfontein Celtic striker Rodrick Mutuma. Zimbabwean Brian Amidu, formerly with Kaizer Chiefs and Black Leopards, has tried his luck, as has Brazilian Paulo Lima.

Ex-Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars forward Takesure Chinyama is currently trying his luck, as is Zambian striker Jimmy Ndhlovu.
