Mobara stays at the back

ABUBAKAR Mobara might have won widespread acclaim for his driving performance in midfield for Ajax Cape Town last season, but coach Roger de Sa says he will be using him as a centre-back this season.

Mobara will continue alongside teenager Rivaldo Coetzee in the heart of defence tonight as Ajax take on Polokwane City away at Peter Mokaba Stadium. With captain Dominic Isaacs still out injured, it is an important role for Mobara, who was used more in the middle in the last campaign.

"You have to be careful with moving a player around too much, otherwise you make him a jack of all trades and a master of none," said De Sa as he explained his philosophy behind keeping the 20-year-old in the back four.

"That is where he started his career, as a centre-back. And if you sit down and ask him where he wants to play, he tells you 'coach, my favourite position is centre-back'.

De Sa said he was unlikely to make changes to the team that beat champions Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 last Wednesday, especially after keeping a second successive clean sheet.

"After two clean sheets we won't mess around with the team too much."
