Swallows continue to soar

MOROKA Swallows continued with their perfect start to the new Absa Premiership season with a 2-1 win over AmaZulu at Dobsonville Stadium last night.

Lerato Chabangu, once again, scored the winning goal for the Beautiful Birds - finding the back of the net in the 62nd minute.

Chabangu's 81st-minute goal earned Swallows three points against Orlando Pirates, whom they pipped with the same score margin in their season-opening match at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

The former Bafana Bafana star scored four minutes after Goodman Dlamini had cancelled out Luvhengo Mungomeni's 29th minute opener for the Zeca Marques-coached side.

Marques has already got the backing of club boss Leon Prins following their win over Pirates who only settled for a 2-2 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Free State Stadium last night.

Prins said their target this season was a top-three finish.

lNdumiso Mabena scored in each half to give Platinum Stars a 2-1 win over Free State Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

It was a pleasing result for Dikwena who suffered a 2-0 defeat in their opening match against Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Ea Lla Koto, on the other hand, remain winless in two outings following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stuart Baxter's Kaizer Chiefs at home, also on Saturday.

Swallows and Chiefs are the only teams sitting on six points, thanks to their winning starts to the campaign. Stars are bottom on the log.

lElsewhere, Maritzburg United, who drew 1-all in their opening league match of the campaign against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus last Friday, beat Polokwane City 2-1 at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Mohau Mokate and Kwanda Mngonyama struck a goal apiece for Steve Komphela's side, while Puleng Tlolane replied for Rise and Shine.
