City make right moves

POLOKWANE City boss Johnny Mogaladi is confident his club will not be involved in the relegation battle again after going on a buying spree that saw the arrival of 10 new players.

Last season's last-gasp escape via the play-offs was seemingly a huge wake-up call as City have also strengthened off the pitch, unveiling XCO Sport as their new sponsors at their headquarters in Polokwane yesterday.

Mogaladi identified the new players as Rendani Ndou, Ntampi Kirizestom, Linda Shiba, Lebogang Motumi, Rocket Nyundu, Robson Nqule and Dino Visser.

Rise and Shine have already recruited former Bafana Bafana captain Benson Mhlongo, Elias Ngwepe and Cole Alexandra.

"I'm happy with the acquisitions we have made, we have a far more competitive team now than last season. The other thing is that we had enough time to prepare," said Mogaladi.

"The team is ready for the new season and will perform well. We don't want to be involved in the relegation business any more."

City will start their 2014-2015 season with an away Absa Premiership fixture against University of Pretoria on Saturday at 3pm.

On their new sponsor, Mogaladi said: "This is proof that the business sector also has confidence in us, we won't disappoint them."

XCO Sport are among the leading suppliers in the sports industry.

Mogaladi added that they will also establish an academy to develop their own players.

"The academy will be based at the Polokwane City village," he said.
