THERE was finally some profile for South Africa at the Fifa World Cup at the weekend as Orlando Pirates reserve goalkeeper Fatau Dauda got to play and Mamelodi Sundowns' new signing Ejike Uzoenyi featured for Nigeria.

Former national team coach Carlos Queiroz also nearly masterminded one of the shocks of the tournament.

Dauda got the nod ahead of Norway-based Adam Kwarasey in goal for Ghana, who put up a heroic showing against mighty Germany but let a lead slip to draw 2-2 and are now on the brink of elimination.

Dauda had little chance with either goal for Germany, the first from Mario Goetze and the second from Miroslav Klose.

There were little signs of nerves from a rusty Dauda after spending almost all the season on the bench with the Buccaneers.

He came off his line early to make a good save from Mesit Ozil and stopped an effort from Sami Khedira.

Later, Uzoenyi came off for the final 15 minutes to help Nigeria defeat Bosnia-Herzegovina and put one foot in the second round.

Uzoenyi was a late call-up into the Super Eagles squad for the tournament and having missed out in the opening 0-0 draw with Iran, he got a run.
