ROGER de Sa says Ajax Cape Town's 2-0 victory over SuperSport United on Tuesday was the best performance from the side since he took over the reins two months ago.

The Urban Warriors, led by youngsters Keegan Dolly, Tashreeq Morris and Rivaldo Coetzee, as well as the brilliance of goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola, completed a deserved 2-0 success in a game in which they also hit the woodwork twice.

"It's the best performance from the side since I took over, and that is encouraging because it shows we are improving," De Sa said. "Tonight we were really good at times, Tassie [Morris] was very good, the whole back-four was outstanding.

"You look at Rivaldo, that kid is 17 and he was excellent against top-class PSL players. It is very good for us." Next up for Ajax is an away trip to Maritzburg United tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Matsatsantsa's season might be effectively over having fallen well behind in the league race and bombed out of the Nedbank Cup at the weekend, but the club will still have an important role to play in the fate of other clubs at both ends of the table.

The setback against Ajax has likely ended any hopes United had of finishing third and qualifying for the African Confederation Cup next year.

It leaves coach Cavin Johnson to play out the club's four remaining league matches with next season in mind, though all could be crucial at both the top and the bottom of the table.

Two of those matches are at home to Bidvest Wits on Saturday and away at Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on April 26. The two sides are involved in a three-horse race for league honours with Kaizer Chiefs for the championship.

"Those are two nice games, I will look forward to them," Johnson said. "They will be two completely different matches in terms of the challenges we will face . one is a tennis team and the other is a table tennis side." Pressed for an explanation of his bizarre analogy, Johnson only said: "Use your imagination."

Wins in either of those matches could potentially derail the championship challenge of Sundowns or Wits in the closing weeks of the campaign. But it is also at the bottom of the table where Matsatsantsa could have a major say. Their other two games are against Arrows next Wednesday and Polokwane City on May 10.
