VETERAN Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba will be formally confirmed as coach of both the under-20 and under-23 national sides in the next few weeks.
The candidates expected to take over the under-17 squad have been whittled down to three - Shawn Bishop, Mackey Chenia and Molefi Ntseki.
Mashaba's appointment is not surprising after he took the under-20 team to success in last year's Cosafa Youth Championship in Lesotho. He is the most successful youth trainer Safa have had and will next month begin his bid to qualify the U-20 team for next year's African Youth Championships in Senegal.
But with the under-17 side due to begin their continental championship qualifiers in July, the choice of a coach for the team is now overdue.
