Safa on verge of unveiling technical sponsor

THE South African Football Association is expected to sign a deal with German sportswear company Adidas to return as technical sponsors of all the national teams, including Bafana Bafana.

The deal between the two parties could be signed today.

A source close to the team involved in the negotiations told Sowetan yesterday: "We have reached an agreement with Adidas, they are coming on board as technical sponsors. It is a very good deal, far better than the one we had in the past. Football development will also benefit.

"Fifa, who also have Adidas as their official partners, have been very helpful in the negotiations to have the company back as our technical sponsors."

The previous deal between Safa and Adidas was worth R13-million. Safa was also talking to Nike and Kappa before reaching an agreement with Adidas. Sowetan also learnt that Safa was negotiating with Standard Bank to replace Absa as sponsors of Bafana.

Safa CEO Dennis Mumble could not be reached for comment.
