THE Premier Soccer League continued to shuffle fixtures around yesterday, creating an even bigger backlog by announcing that Sunday's Telkom Knockout semifinal match between Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars had been moved.

In a statement released just after lunchtime, PSL general manager Derek Blanckensee said the African Champions League final contributed to the switch.

Orlando Pirates host Egyptian side Al Ahly at Orlando stadium in the first leg on Saturday night, with the switch making the encounter the only football match this weekend.

The draw for the cup semifinals was conducted last week and Blanckensee said at the time that Amakhosi would host Dikwena on November 3, while Pirates would travel to SuperSport United three weeks later.

Yesterday, the league confirmed that the two matches will now be played on the same weekend, meaning some Absa Premiership clashes will have to be resechuled for another date.

"Due to the Caf Champions League final this weekend featuring Orlando Pirates, we couldn't play both TKO semifinals on the same weekend.

"We decided that we should move the semis to a later date where we can play both games," said Blanckensee in the statement.

Chiefs were scheduled to take on Mamelodi Sundowns in what was likely to be a top-of-the-table clash on November 23. But, because they now have a cup commitment, that clash at Loftus Stadium will have to be rescheduled.

The Buccaneers are already playing catch-up matches in the domestic league, having made it all the way to the final of the Champions League.

Pirates have only managed three league games so far this season, while the rest of the Premier League clubs have played seven or eight matches.

The PSL has its work cut out because of the fixture pile-up, with the African Nations Championship in January and Nedbank Cup still to come.
