Bobby hits out at Tau

KAIZER Chiefs' general manager, Bobby Motaung, yesterday responded to allegations made on radio by Jimmy Tau that the right-back was released last month for "non-football" reasons.

"I am displeased how Jimmy handled the matter. It is normal business that, when a contract ends, two parties need to negotiate. Jimmy got injured and was out of the team for a season, while the team did well, acquiring others in that position," explained Motaung.

"[Hypothetically], if Jimmy wants a R2-million signing-on fee, he would have to be a player guaranteed to play for 90 minutes."

Motaung also denied reports that Chiefs made an offer to SuperSport United for midfielder Kermit Erasmus.

Meanwhile, interest in Abia Nale, whose future at Chiefs remains uncertain, continues to grow.

Platinum Stars have joined Mpumalanga Black Aces and Ajax Cape Town in the race for the midfielder, who has been put on transfer by Amakhosi.

But Nale this week told Sowetan he was not keen to join Aces, saying he would rather train with Chiefs' reserves than move to the Absa Premiership returnees.

"I always listen to my heart before I make a major decision affecting my future," said Nale.

But Chiefs insisted yesterday that Nale has been placed on the transfer list.

''Abia came to me and explained he had problems with not playing," coach Stuart Baxter said.

"He knows I showed faith in him at the beginning, but for some reason he went off the boil and that was at the time the team was doing well.

''He couldn't deal with that - and if he was to come back, could he deal with it now?

''Eventually we are going to have another conversation in six or seven weeks and see where we are.

"I like Abia as a player, but at Chiefs every player is burning to stay at the club and it is not about if you are not playing, then you should decide to leave."

Motaung said they were waiting for Nale to make up his mind and that he should go where his heart guided him.

Nale could return to Ajax, who appear to have the upper hand in the race, after he had a relatively successful six-month loan spell with the Urban Warriors.

Ajax coach Muhsin Ertugral, who initially brought Nale to Chiefs from Lamontville Golden Arrows, once described his relationship with him as that of a father and son. - Additional reporting by Louis Mazibuko
