THE rush is on for next month's Carling Black Label Soweto derby featuring Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, with 21683 tickets already sold.

Organisers have urged fans to buy tickets early to avoid disappointment, with sold-out signs expected to go up long before the July 27 game at FNB Stadium.

A record 81200 supporters watched the unique match last year. The fans select the players on both teams.

The Buccaneers won the tournament last year for the second consecutive season.

Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung told Sowetan yesterday they were keen to win the cup to keep the club's momentum going.

This is after Amakhosi ended last season by winning the Absa Premiership and the Nedbank Cup.

"It's great to see soccer-loving people once more endorsing this event by voting in big numbers, they know charity organisations are also benefiting from the tournament.

"We have created space for the Black Label Cup in Naturena.

"The match will also be an opportunity to display some of the new players that we will be signing.

"There are several players that we have identified and we are talking to them. We are also going to promote two or three youngsters from our reserve team to the first team," added Motaung.
