Arrest made over racist golf attack

Clarifying that the alleged offender was not a member of the club, World of Golf vows to help golf instructor Nathan Maluleke 'in taking all necessary legal steps to ensure justice is done'

This is the statement from the World of Golf website:

On Saturday evening, an unacceptable altercation occurred at The World of Golf where a day visitor of the facility was involved in a fight with a member of staff, Nathan Maluleke.

The incident started over racial abuse and regrettably escalated into a full-on fight, in which Nathan was severely beaten.

Nathan is a long-serving golf professional... and a valued member of our team.

At this point in time not all the details of the incident are clearly known, but both a police and internal investigation are taking place.

The family involved are not members of the facility.

Unfortunately our internal security was unable to deal with the incident, which quickly escalated out of control.

Police and medical emergency services were called and both responded immediately and neutralised the situation within a few minutes.

An arrest has been made.

The MoreGolf Group and The World of Golf deeply abhor the incident and don’t tolerate racism of any nature.

Our immediate concern is the speedy recovery of Nathan and we are assured that the legal process will take its course. We have advised and will support Nathan in taking all necessary legal steps to ensure justice is done.
