Palmer willing to give Zongo another chance

CHIPPA United have thrown a lifeline to dribbling wizard Masibusane Zongo, with former Bafana Bafana striker Thembinkosi "Terror" Fanteni also invited for trials.

United chairman Chippa Mpengesi was full of praise for new coach Ian Palmer for agreeing to give the talented but wayward Zongo another chance to play professional soccer.

"We have an understanding coach who treats the players like his own children. The boy apologised for going awol and we accepted it," said Mpengesi. "Ian was open during the meeting, saying we must give the boy another chance. He made it clear that he will be patient with the boy.

"As we speak, Masibusane is training with the team and doing the things he is renowned for, performing miracles with the ball. It's good for us to have him back in the team."

Zongo, once described by the Jomo Sono as one of the rare talents of South African soccer, could not be reached for comment.

In confirming their interest in the well-travelled Fanteni, Mpengesi said: "Terror is coming to train with us so that Ian will have a look at him.

"We will sign him if Ian and his technical staff are impressed with his performance at training. Terror is an experienced player."

Fanteni has been out of contract after Bidvest Wits released him at the beginning of the season.

He went for trials with Bloemfontein Celtic but failed to land a deal.
