FORMER Bafana Bafana midfielder Delron Buckley believes he still has a lot to offer after recovering from two injuries that kept him out of action for two months.

The well-travelled Buckley played his first game of the season when Maritzburg United went down 2-0 to Platinum Stars in Moruleng on Sunday.

Buckley, who was grounded by a back problem and later tore his knee ligaments, came on as a second half substitute for Michael Morton.

"It's great to be back in action after such a long time. I'm trying to regain my fitness so that I can also contribute to the success of the team," said Buckley.

"I still have a lot to offer as a player despite my age [35]. Except for the injuries, I'm enjoying myself in the Premier Soccer League. It's been a great experience for me."

Buckley came back to South Africa after spending more than 14 years playing professional soccer for various clubs in Europe.

Buckley blamed United's poor recent performances on a spate of injuries to key players, with Ruben Cloete the latest to be sidelined after he collided with Stars captain Vuyo Mere on Sunday. Dillon Sheppard, Mario Booysen and Ashley Hartog also spent time in the sick bay.
