Pirates hire own plane to Congo

ORLANDO Pirates have opted to charter a flight for their trip to Congo-Brazzaville to play AC Leopards on Saturday to ensure their Absa Premiership fixture against Polokwane City next Wednesday is not postponed.

Pirates play Leopards in the African Champions League group stage return match at Stade Municipal Denis Sassou N'Guesso in Dolisie. Kick off is at 3.30pm.

Pirates' administration executive Floyd Mbele said: "The good thing about a charter is that we will fly direct to Dolisie on Friday and come back after the game.

"We had to go the charter route because SAA flights from Johannesburg to Brazzaville are only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Our big challenge is that we have a league game against Polokwane City at home next Wednesday. If we used SAA, our game against City would have been postponed."

The Buccaneers will face Leopards without Andile Jali, Happy Jele and Thabo Matlaba, who were all booked when Pirates went down 2-1 to Zamalek in Egypt three weeks ago, which was their first defeat in this tournament.

But fringe players such as Mpho Makola, Ayanda Gxaba and Joseph Molangoane are expected to get a run on Saturday. Siyabonga Sangweni is also back after recovering from a niggling knee injury, which kept him out of action for almost six months.
