'Our rivalry is good for national team'

BAFANA Bafana captain Itumeleng Khune says the hot rivalry between himself and Orlando Pirates' increasingly impressive gloveman Senzo Meyiwa is great for the national team.

Meyiwa is not part of the Bafana squad to face Nigeria and Burkina Faso in friendlies this week, but his stellar performances for the Buccaneers in recent matches have made sure that Khune does not settle into a comfort zone.

"Meyiwa is doing very well, and I often hear people saying he's coming for the number one jersey ... and that is good for the country," Khune said.

Meyiwa was again the difference between victory and defeat for Pirates during the penalty shootout against SuperSport United on Sunday.

He helped send the Buccaneers to the MTN8 semifinal.

His most heroic performances, however, have recently come in the Caf Champions League where he has saved penalties away to TP Mazembe in Congo and Egypt's giants Al Ahly to keep Pirates in the competition.
