Wits and Celtic look set to kick off MTN8

BIDVEST Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic will likely kick off the MTN8 this season when the matches are played on the weekend of August 9-11, Sowetan understands.

The quarterfinal clashes will be between the top eight sides in the Absa Premiership from last season, with defending champions Moroka Swallows having not made the cut this year. It is understood the fixtures have yet to be rubber-stamped, but the draft proposal would see BidVest Wits host Bloemfontein Celtic in their quarterfinal at the BidVest Stadium on Friday, August 9.

Orlando Pirates have been pencilled in to face SuperSport United at the Orlando Stadium on the afternoon of Saturday, August 10, a fixture that is sandwiched in between their crucial African Champions League clashes away at Al Ahly and home to Zamalek.

Kaizer Chiefs' meeting with University of Pretoria is set to be played that same night, though the venue will likely be outside Johannesburg.

Platinum Stars' home match-up against Free State Stars is set for the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Sunday, August 11.

The MTN8 has traditionally been used as the kick-off to the new season, but there will be one round of league action played before this year's tournament gets under way.
