Aces eye Man City swaps

MPUMALANGA Black Aces hope that in time they will be able to field some young players from English Premiership giants Manchester City in the Premier Soccer League.

Black Aces recently signed an agreement with the Manchester club that will see their academy benefit from specialised training provided by coaches of City, as well as various other links in youth development.

And Black Aces owner Mario Morfu says they are hopeful of taking the partnership a step forward and perhaps incorporating some up-and-coming City stars in their first team.

"It is massive for our club and for the future of this team," Morfu told Sowetan. "The partnership with City is a long-term vision, looking at the development of our youngsters with the help of their expertise.

"But we would also hope that in the future we might be able to have a few of their young players with us in South Africa to gain first-team experience. They have a magnificent academy and it would be fantastic for us."

Black Aces won promotion back to the PSL through the play-offs last week, subject to a legal challenge from Thanda Royal Zulu. The club last played in the top flight in the 2010-2011 campaign.
