Safa sets play-offs deadline

THE South African Football Association competitions directorate is hoping to have the appeals and arbitration affecting five provinces, which have caused a delay in the national play-offs, resolved in two weeks' time.

Safa competitions director Balebetse Monnakgotla announced this week that the play-offs will now be played in Ekurhuleni from July 22 to 28 at three venues - Mehlareng and Makhulong stadiums in Tembisa, and Sinaba in Daveyton.

The play-offs, which will see the top two teams being promoted to the National First Division next season, were originally scheduled for June 24-30 at the same venues. Two weeks ago Safa postponed them indefinitely because of pending protest cases. At that time, only three teams were confirmed provincial winners.

Since then, one more team was added to the list, with Safa confirming play-off spots for FC Vardos (Gauteng), Mthatha Bucks (Eastern Cape), Mbombela United (Mpumalanga) and Amajuba (KwaZulu-Natal).

"We are dealing with arbitration and appeals in Western Cape, Limpopo, Free State, Northern Cape and North West. Give us two weeks, we would have made pronouncements in all those provinces," said Monnak- gotla.

The nine provincial winners will be divided into two streams with the top two sides promoted to the NFD.
