ORLANDO Pirates have been invited to Lesotho next month to take part in a one-day soccer tournament that will form part of the seven-day 50th birthday celebrations of King Letsie III.

The Buccaneers who, for the first time since 2010 ended last season without a trophy, will play Lesotho Premier League side Matlama Football Club in the King's Soccer Cup at Setsoto Stadium in Maseru on July 14. King Letsie was born on July 17 1963.

Lesotho Football Association technical director Seephephe Matete said: "Orlando Pirates have a big following in Lesotho [and that] influenced our decision to bring them here. Matlama are on board because they are named after our founding King Moshoeshoe. We expect a full house on the day of the game."

The Buccaneers are excited about the trip. Ace midfielder Oupa Manyisa said: "Going to Lesotho also forms part of the preparations for the African Champions League and Carling Black Label Cup [where they will take on Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on July 27].

"It's a great honour for us [to be invited to Lesotho]."

For the Champions League, Pirates take on Congo Brazzaville's AC Leopards at Orlando Stadium on July 21.
