NONI "She Bee Stingin" Tenge will be involved in a WBA interim welterweight title fight before she challenges WBA, WBC and WBO champion Cecilia Braekhus of Norway.

Tenge's promoter Andile Sdinile said yesterday: "Cecilia is to defend against either Holly Holm or Layla McCarter. I don't know when exactly. So the master plan is that Noni must win the interim title so that the camp of Braekhus can have no excuses."

Tenge, the former WBF and IBF welterweight champion, is still on cloud nine after her recent ninth-round stoppage of Argentinian Silvia Fernanda Zacarias at East London's Orient Theatre. That was Tenge's comeback fight after she was stopped in eight rounds by McCarter for the WBA junior-middleweight title last September.

The American, who has held three world titles in three weight divisions, handed Tenge her first defeat since she made her professional debut in 2007.

McCarter and her trainer, Luis Tapia, were ringside guests at Tenge's fight against Zacarias.

Sdinile described the fight as a confidence builder for Tenge. The 31-year-old Mdantsane-based boxer improved to 10 KOs in 12 wins.

Meanwhile, Sdinile says he still has confidence in Unathi "African Queen" Myekeni despite her points loss to Brazilian Simone da Silva Duarte for the WBA junior-featherweight title just after the fight between Tenge and Zacarias. It was the first defeat for the former WBF champion from Mdantsane.

"It was not a bad fight at all for Unathi, although I believe that she did not do enough as a person who wanted the title," said Sdinile.

"I will have a meeting with her and trainer Lennox Mpulampula after his return from Johannesburg next week to map the way forward."

Mpulampula's other charge, Nkosinathi "Mabere" Joyi, will challenge IBO strawweight champion Hekkie "Hexecutioner" Budler at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni on Saturday night.
