Mended Masenamela looking to come back with a Punch

BAFANA Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Punch Masenamela is hoping to get the all-clear from the medical team next week to start playing again after being sidelined by a knee injury since October last year.

Masenamela, who sustained the injury when Platinum Stars beat Sundowns 1-0 in a league match in Tshwane, started with the rehabilitation process last week and he is itching to get back to action.

"I made a big mistake by not seeking medical help soon after the game (because) I thought it was a minor injury and kept on playing. Little did I know that I was making things worse for myself. I started feeling more pain and I was told I had aggravated it," said Masenamela.

"I was later advised to go for an operation in December which was very successful but the doctors told me I will have to be a little patient for the injury to heal completely. I went for an assessment two weeks ago and they told me I can start running.

"I will be going back to see them next week for another assessment. I just hope they will give me the green light to start playing soccer. For now I'm leaving everything in the hands of God."

He acknowledged the support he has been receiving since he was injured.

"I love soccer, so it has been frustrating for me to sit in the stands and watch my teammates play. I also want to come back and help my team and Bafana Bafana. We have a new coach (Pitso Mosimane) who has been doing a great job since he arrived in January. I think Sundowns will be unstoppable under Pitso next season. He's laying a solid foundation (for next season)."
