Igesund recovers in hospital

The 56-year-old mentor is the only coach to lead four different Premier Soccer League clubs - Manning Rangers, Orlando Pirates, Santos and Mamelodi Sundowns - to the Premiership title.

BAFANA Bafana coach Gordon Igesund, pictured, was admitted to a Johannesburg hospital on Tuesday with "severe abdominal pains", the South African Football Association said.

"Initial tests showed that the Bafana coach might be suffering from appendicitis," Safa said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Ephraim Nematswerani, who was attending to Igesund, believed the national coach might have appendicitis.

"Thorough and further investigations are being carried out to confirm the diagnosis," he said.

"We are, however, confident that he will be back on his feet soon. It is nothing too serious." Igesund was appointed as Bafana coach in June last year and guided hosts South Africa to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations this month.
