Seroka and Stiglingh meet in grudge match for ABU title

JASPER "Jazzman" Seroka and Joey "Stinging" Stiglingh will fight for the vacant African Boxing Union junior lightweight title, ABU president Houchi Houcine confirmed on Tuesday.

"Yes, we have sanctioned that match," said the France-based Tunisian who is also vice-president of the World Boxing Council. Seroka, the former South African champion, is rated number one while Stiglingh occupies the sixth spot.

Victory guarantees a top rating in the WBC, assured Houcine. The ABU is an affiliate of the Mexico-based WBC.

Seroka, whose skills are honed by Manny Fernandez, defeated Stiglingh over eight rounds in 2011. It was the first defeat after 13 straight wins for the fighter trained by Colin Nathan.

Their grudge match will top the Tuff-en-Nuff bill that will be jointly organised by promoters Rodney Berman and Jeff Ellis at Emperors Palace on March 18.

Golden Gloves fight publicist Brian Mitchell announced yesterday that ABU lightweight champion Keith "Baby Beast" Nkosi and former IBO youth heavyweight champion Flo "Black Panther" Simba will also feature on the bill.

"We will take it slowly with Simba," said Mitchell, referring to the boxer who has been given the chance to redeem himself after two consecutive knockout losses against Thabiso Mchunu last year.

Meanwhile, Houcine revealed that Africa will be represented by Nkosi, Manuel Charr (heavyweight), Naoufel Benrabah (welterweight) and Justin Savi (featherweight) in the WBC World Cup, which kicks off in Mexico in June.
