Breno appeal to have prison term revised rejected

Former Bayern Munich player Breno's application to have his prison sentence for aggravated arson revised has been rejected.

The Munich state court says arguments that the former defender's legal and material rights were violated were dismissed as "unfounded," leaving the 23-year-old Breno to see out the rest of the 3-year, 9-month sentence imposed last July.

The court's statement issued Wednesday notes that Breno started fires in several rooms in the villa he had been renting with his wife and three children in the affluent Munich suburb of Gruenwald on the night of Sept. 20, 2011. The blaze destroyed the residence, causing an estimated ?900,000 ($1.2 million) worth of damage. Nobody was injured.

Breno's contract with Bayern expired at the end of last season.
