BURKINA Faso and Niger are expected to arrive in South Africa today to participate in the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The Burkinabe are in the "group of death", Group D, along with reigning champions Zambia, Nigeria and Ethiopia, who are returning to the finals after 31 years.

The Group D teams will be based in Mbombela.

Niger, who featured in their first Afcon finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon in February last year, are in Group B with Ghana, DR Congo and Mali.

Niger and Burkina Faso will meet in an international friendly on January 10 at a venue still to be disclosed.

Meanwhile, Chippa United goalkeeper Daouda Kassaly has been included in Niger's squad, as has Babacar Talatou of AmaZulu.

The Local Organising Committee yesterday announced that Mali will arrive in the country on January 10, followed by Bafana Bafana's opponents for the opening match, Cape Verde, the following day.

That first game, which the organisers are hoping will be a sold-out affair, is at FNB Stadium on January 19.

Ivory Coast, whose team includes Didier Drogba and Salamon Kalou, will land at OR Tambo International Airport on January 16 along with Ghana. Ethiopia and DRC are scheduled to arrive on January 18.

Zambia and Angola have already arrived in South Africa. They featured in an international friendly played behind closed doors at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday. Angola won the match 2-0.
