Giant-killing Plat Stars face draw specialists

By Mazola Molefe | Dec 14, 2012 | COMMENTS [ 7 ]

PLATINUM Stars have punched above their weight this season and there will be no holding back by Dikwena when they take on draw kings SuperSport United tomorrow night.

Kickoff is at 8.15pm.

It has all come together for Stars coach Cavin Johnson, who quickly turned an unfancied side around and has brought them much success after 14 Absa Premiership matches.

Dikwena even ended log leaders Chiefs' unbeaten run of 11 games when they met in Rustenburg last month.

Johnson's men could be the big winners this weekend if they claim all three points against United and the two Soweto giants Chiefs and Orlando Pirates suffer unexpected defeats.

Platinum Stars trail Amakhosi by only three points.

Stars have also got goals in them. Last weekend, Dikwena came from 4-2 down against Golden Arrows to snatch victory 6-4. But they could be kept at bay by a SuperSport team that has drawn more matches, 11 of 14, than any team in the league this season.

Meanwhile, Pitso Mosimane looks to continue on the road to reviving Mamelodi Sundowns. Having finally guided Sundowns to a win in his second match in charge, Mosimane faces former coach of the Brazilians Antonio Lopez Habas at Bidvest Wits at Milpark Stadium tomorrow in another match that kicks off at 8.15pm.

The Clever Boys have been rocked by reports of ill-discipline from key players and Sundowns are slowly turning it around with Katlego Mphela back in the fold.

Mosimane has also had more time to work with his players after the win against Black Leopards last weekend. The coach moaned about winning the game but losing right-back Doctor Mampuru, who joined a long list of injured players.
