He was treated for minor injuries after the crash and was then arrested for drunken and reckless or negligent driving

The driver of a bakkie which collided with a minibus taxi, killing four soccer players in Limpopo, has been arrested, police said on Monday.

Brigadier Hangwane Mulaudzi said the 36-year-old man was treated for minor injuries after the crash and was then arrested for drunken and reckless or negligent driving.

Four soccer players were killed when the bakkie hit the minibus on its side along the R71 near Polokwane on Sunday night.

The taxi landed on its side in the path of oncoming traffic, where a bus carrying Zion Christian Church members crashed into it.

The soccer players were members of the Polokwane City football club and had been travelling from Oscar Mphetha stadium, where they had played their National First Division match against FC AK.

Four players died at the scene while seven others were taken to hospital.

The man was expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

It is so sad that people dont want to listen, how long are we going to bury our loved ones because of alcohol? we need to come up with a stiffer sentence that will make all drivers not to even think of touching alcohol. I believe the Government and the alcohol companies must come up with solutions to this or else we must ban alcohol once and for all

I guess a lot of people usually think that it can never happen to them. Unfortunately, reality strikes in once tragedy has happened.
If you have been drinking, do not drive, PERIOD!
