Swallows hope to use Chippa as springboard

MOROKA Swallows will be looking for a convincing victory in their Absa Premiership clash against lowly Chippa United at Dobsonville Stadium tonight to get a recently wavering season back on track.

The Birds, MTN8 champions in dashing fashion with a thrilling semifinal victory over Mamelodi Sundowns and 2-1 final win over SuperSport United, have found the going tough in their past three games.

A 2-0 away defeat to Bidvest Wits and home draw with Black Leopards in the league came either side of an away penalties defeat against Maritzburg United in the first round of the Telkom Knockout.

Coach Zeca Marques will see Chippa as ideal opponents to pick up three points and improve on seventh place in the league.

Chippa have practically written the manual on how not to go about your first season after promotion to the PSL.

They have fired two coaches - Manqoba Mngqithi and Roger Sikhakhane - and are in second-last place with just nine matches played.

Chippa have appointed former Santos player, Cape Times football writer and one-time Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Farouk Abrahams as Mngqithi's replacement, and he started with a 2-2 home draw with Matsatsantsa on Tuesday night.

Today's clash starts at 8pm.
