Spartak Moscow link up with SA

FORMER National First Division club Spartak co-director Arkadi Gutkin has plans to help a top Russian club establish an academy in Johannesburg to nurture talent.

Moscow Spartak have enlisted the services of Gutkin, originally from Russia but who has been based here for 20 years, to coordinate the project in South Africa.

"We will be establishing the academy here, we have signed an agreement with Football Galaxy which is under Spartak Moscow," said Gutkin from their offices in Houghton.

"We have been working with Spartak Moscow on a number of projects, including sending two boys from Highlands Park FC for trials in August.

"One of the boys, Malcolm Ndadzoka, has done well and will be joining them at the beginning of the year in terms of the agreement with Spartak.

"South African soccer players are in demand in Russia following the success of former Bafana Bafana players such as Matthew Booth and Jacob Lekgetho."

Russian soccer icon Vladimir Beschastnykh will be coming to South Africa for trials and coaching clinics scheduled for Highlands Park Gemmel Park Club from December 1.
