Will Downs widen log league tonight?

BLOEMFONTEIN Celtic will be out for revenge against Mamelodi Sundowns tonight and their trusted defender Mulomowandau Mathoho is adamant the Free Staters will win the match and throw the league title race wide open.

They meet in an Absa Premiership fixture at Botshabelo Stadium that kicks off at 7.30pm.

Mathoho, who is reportedly wanted by top PSL teams in Gauteng, said The Brazilians will pay dearly for beating them 2-1 in the first round in September.

"Sundowns are the most consistent club in South African football and have an array of great players. That is why so many people are tipping them to win the league title, but we will have a plan for them," Mathoho said.

"This match comes at a time when we are desperate for a win, especially after the 2-0 defeat by Kaizer Chiefs last week. We had no business to lose to Chiefs after we squandered many scoring chances.

"Sundowns must forget about getting a point (tonight). We are not in the business of donating points, not at this point."

From the Sundowns camp, midfielder Hlompho Kekana said they were geared up for a tough match.

"We expect Celtic to come out spitting fire after their defeat by Chiefs, but we will be ready for them. Our aim is to win the match to widen the gap between us and the clubs below us. As usual, people will be treated to a five-star soccer display," said the former Celtic player.

While Sundowns are top of the log standings, Celtic need a win to enhance their chances of finishing the season in the top eight.

In Durban, coach Muhsin Ertugral will come face to face with former employers Chiefs when his Lamontville Golden Arrows welcome them to Moses Mabhida Stadium.

In their last match, Arrows caused a major upset when they beat Amakhosi 2-1 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in the first round.

"We will come back with maximum points," said Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung.
