Celtic & Leopards settle for stalemate

Bloemfontein Celtic and Black Leopards played to a 1-1 draw in their Premiership fixture at Free State Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Celtic opened the scoring when Lerato Manzini beat Leopards keeper Posnett Omony with a tame shot in the 29th minute, after connecting with a cross from winger Joel Mogorosi.

However, the hosts failed to retain the lead as the visitors rallied back to level the scoreline in the 32nd minute via captain Mongezi Bobe, who fired a powerful shot to beat Celtic goalminder Patrick Tignyemb.

The second stanza saw both teams creating numerous chances, with Leopards having the upper hand over Celtic, who were seeking revenge after their 3-2 defeat by the visitors earlier in the season.

Leopards’ strikers Edgar Manaka and Abbas Amidu fired wide in the 52nd and 59 minutes respectively, with Celtic keeper Tignyemb left stranded after his defenders failed to thwart the danger.

Both teams made three substitutions, introducing offensive players and fresh legs.

Substitue Ruzaigh Gamaldien was unlucky not give Celtic the lead in the 85th minute as his effort came off the upright with Omony well beaten.

Celtic clung to their place in the top half of the Premiership standings, holding seventh spot going into the two-month hiatus in the league campaign, while Leopards were lying in 12th position.
