Isaacs set for move to Chippa

MOVING: Erwin Isaacs.
MOVING: Erwin Isaacs.

ERWIN Isaacs's transfer from Wits is almost certain to happen when the transfer window opens, but club officials are peeved details of a proposed transfer to struggling Chippa United were prematurely released.

Chippa coach Farouk Abrahams earlier this week detailed a possible R3-million move for the mercurial striker back to Cape Town, after an unhappy short stint in Johannesburg.

But Wits chief executive Jose Ferreira says no deal has been done yet and all options were still on the table.

Isaacs's future at Wits, certainly looks over, though. He has not played since September after falling out with coach Antonio Lopez.

The striker, once a keen target for Kaizer Chiefs and with a Bafana Bafana cap to his name, has a reputation for a lively off-field lifestyle.

His haphazard approach to his professional career was further confirmed by an interview he gave earlier this season, when he admitted he had faked injury in the past to avoid having to travel away with his previous club, Santos.

Chippa United are negotiating a deal that will see Wits recoup most of the money they spent on Isaacs, who turns 26 next week, from Santos. Abrahams said it was R3-million but that R2-million would be paid initially and a further R1-million if Chippa stayed up.

Despite his patchy reputation, Isaacs has one of the best goal-to-game ratios in the league, with 61 goals in 166 career starts.
