The Sekhukhune District Municipality is this weekend hosting the 2nd Sekhukhune Annual Legendary Golf Day 2012, at Begersford Golf Course.

This year, the golf tournament hosted by Executive Mayor, Cllr Mogobo David Magabe, is a tribute to ANC stalwart and former trade unionist John Nkadimeng. The event will also honour the late Bafana Bafana assistant coach Thomas Madigage. Madigage, who hails from Driekop in Ga-Sekhukhune, died in a fatal crash in October.

The Sekhukhune Annual Legendary Golf Day will begin with a cocktail party on November 23 to welcome golfers from all parts of the country.  The main event will take place on November 24 at Tubatse, Begersford Golf Course.  The event will be followed by a prize-giving gala dinner.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Thabang Makwetla, Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale, Limpopo Casino and Gambling Board CEO, Serobi Maja, local mayors and business personalities are among guests who have confirmed their attendance, the organisers said in a statement.

Magabe said the District Municipality choose to partner with JK Nkadimeng Foundation to raise funds for charitable causes such as support to orphanage homes, bursary schemes, and other social upliftment initiatives.

“It is also exciting that this year’s edition of the tournament coincides with the 85th birthday anniversary of Ntate 'JK' Nkadimeng, a veteran of our liberation struggle. The former General Secretary of SACTU, ANC NEC Member from 1953, an established trade unionist and former Ambassador to Cuba. His contribution to the liberation struggle is an inspiration to all.

“We will also remember one of the beloved sons of the district, Thomas Madigage, whom we miss dearly,” said Magabe.

Magabe added that through this tournament, the District Municipality is able to pay tribute “to outstanding sons and daughters of our district, who have played a significant role in the struggle for liberation in South Africa”.
