FULGENCIO Zuniga rates Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen extremely highly and, after failing to end Oosthuizen's reign as the IBO super middleweight champion at Emperors Palace on Saturday night, said the South African would go on to win more world titles.

"I have fought the best, such as Kelly Pavlik, Denis Inkin and Lucien Bute, so I know what I'm talking about," said the Colombian, through his assistant trainer Mario Baccani.

"I hit Thomas hard but he took all my punches. His toughness will take him very far. He is also very fast, so I honestly believe the future is bright for him."

However, he warned that Oosthuizen, who had to be given extra time to shed 800g to make the weight on Friday, should take his boxing career more seriously. The limit was 76,36kg and Oosthuzien just made it at 76,34kg.

"You can be the best boxer, but if you don't take your career seriously, then you will have serious problems. He has got to be very careful about such things if he wants to mix it with the big boys out there."

Oosthuizen's defence was porous, in fact he did not even attempt to parry punches, especially in round five. Clearly Zuniga did not hit as hard as he appeared to because otherwise he would have dropped Oosthuizen at least once.

The South African, rated fourth by Ring magazine, eventually got his act together and in the end cruised to a lopsided points victory. Scores were 120-108, 119-109, 119-109, confirming Oosthuizen's sixth defence. He remains undefeated after 22 fights while Zuniga suffered his sixth defeat from 32 fights.

Rodney Berman, Oosthuizen's promoter, complimented his charge over his win but insisted they would have a serious talk today about his weight problem.

"Potentially he is brilliant but I'm cross that he did not make the weight first time."

Thabiso "The Rock" Mchunu is the Last Man Standing's cruiserweight champion. He flattened Danie "Tshwane Tornado" Venter in the fifth round. "I'm too clever and good looking," said Mchunu, who also claimed the ABU title.

Gideon "Hardcore" Buthelezi won his third IBO title on the undercard but the truth is he was lucky to register a split points win over Filipino Edrin Dapudong. Buthelezi took a pounding and even kissed the canvas in the ninth round but all that did not matter to two of the "judges" whose scores read 115-112 and 114-113, while their colleague scored it 115-113 for Dapudong.

Ryno "Lion" Liebenberg laboured to a ninth-round stoppage over Donald Kampamba to register the first defence of his IBO All African light heavyweight title.

The bouts were organised by Golden Gloves.
