Arrows 'will come right' under Mngqithi

LAMONTVILLE Golden Arrows defender Mzuvukile Tom said the squad was pleased to have Manqoba Mngqithi back at the helm, but after two straight losses, the welcome-back party was certainly over.

After marking his return with a vengeful 2-0 defeat of Chippa United, the club that fired him just three games into the season, Mngqithi's Arrows have since lost 3-0 and 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United respectively. Tom insisted that things would have been different had they taken the handful of chances they created against Maritzburg, but he believed that it is an aspect of the game that will improve under Mngqithi's stewardship. The left-back is one of a few remaining members of the Arrows team that won the MTN8 trophy in 2009 under the same coach.

"Since Manqoba's return the mood in the camp has been all right, there is renewed belief that things will go well for us again.

"We're glad he's back because the players now feel free to express themselves and he's a hard-working person.

"If we can just take our chances during games we will do much better. We weren't supposed to lose (on Saturday) because Maritzburg had only one clear chance from which they scored, but we had several we didn't take. We weren't lucky but I'm confident it will come right," Tom said.

Arrows linger just two points above the drop zone.

Mngqithi accused Maritzburg of "parking the bus".

"We wanted to see them attack us. The goal they scored was a defensive mistake from our side. We lost possession in critical positions and we got chances, but we missed them."

Maritzburg moved to fourth position on the log.
