Draw 'is a win' for Abrahams

NEW Chippa United coach Farouk Abrahams is revelling in his role at the helm of the club, given a massive boost with a late equaliser against SuperSport United on Tuesday.

"That's a win for us," said Abrahams as the struggling new boys drew 2-2 at home, twice coming from behind to move out of the relegation zone. "We showed a team spirit and a character that had been missing. I've worked the whole week to get a bunch of 33 players to the same level mentally and I'm proud to say that the boys fought all the way."

Chippa were down 2-1 with 12 minutes to go when Buyile Sali was dismissed for a second yellow card but still came back despite being one man short.

"What more can any coachask," added a delighted Abrahams after his first game in charge.

He has been given the job on a temporary basis by owner Siviwe Mpengesi after first being employed as goalkeeper coach.

But for the past few years Abrahams has worked as a soccer journalist and so is finding his transition to coach a whirlwind affair.

"It is an honour to be able to compete against a coach like Gavin Hunt, who has won so many trophies in his career. This is a job of passion and I'm just having the best time, it's great fun for me."

Abrahams said his side now needed to keep a level head as they prepared to face Moroka Swallows tomorrow.
