KAIZER Chiefs's medical department has given winger Siphiwe "Shabba" Tshabalala the green light to start training with the team after recovering from a leg injury, while five defenders are on the casualty list and being monitored.

The inspirational Tshabalala sustained the injury when the Amakhosi were booted out of the Telkom Knockout by Bidvest Wits who beat them 3-2 in a drama-filled match at the Milpark Stadium two weeks ago.

That resulted in the midfielder missing the 1-all Absa Premiership draw with Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium last Friday.

Tshabalala is expected to feature in the Absa Premiership match against Lamontville Golden Arrows at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday.

Kickoff is at 7.30pm.

"We are delighted to have Shabba back in action, he has been given the all-clear by the medical team to start training with the rest of the guys," said Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa. "The medical team will keep on assessing him to ensure that everything is fine."

Maphosa also announced that their towering defender Mulomowandau Mathoho is also under observation from the medical department after he landed awkwardly on his shoulder in the game against Maritzburg United.

"Mulomowandau's shoulder has been strapped after it was inspected on Monday, the medical team will also be assessing him in the next few days. The injury does not look too bad. He is fine but still feeling some pain when he moves."

Regarding the latest developments on Jimmy Jambo's knee injury, Maphosa said the Zimbabwean defender will undergo an operation today. Jambo survived a career-threatening tackle from compatriot Tinashe Nengomasha in the game against Wits.

"He should have been operated on last week but the problem is that his leg was still swollen. Jimmy will be out for the remainder of the season, just like Jimmy Tau who is also nursing an injury."

Nengomasha has since apologised for the tackle on his former teammate.

Chiefs also have their Bafana Bafana defenders Morgan Gould and Tshepo Masilela under observation following injuries. - Additional reporting by Sello Rabothata
