Durandt hoping for more joy at the Orient

AFTER making a number of successful visits to East London's Orient Theatre, Nick Durandt hopes to succeed once again when Evans Mbamba fights at the venue on Sunday.

Durandt will usher Mbamba to war when the Nigel-born boxer tries to wrestle the SA junior bantamweight title from Miniyakhe Sityatha.

The Mdantsane-based matriculant will be making a third defence of the title he captured when he stopped former champion Unathi Gqokoma at the same venue on April 2 last year.

"We have spent the past 10 weeks preparing for this fight and my boxer is ready to roll," said Durandt.

"Mbamba is going to have too much power for the champion though we are not taking Sityatha for granted. We have prepared for a tough fight, but Mbamba's experience will make the difference on Sunday.

"We know that Sityatha has told his friends that he is going to kill Mbamba. I hope Sityatha has prepared himself for 12 rounds of war."

Mbamba fought Armenian Vic Darchinyan last yea, but lost his bid for the IBO bantamweight crown. He also lost to Tomas Rojas for the interim WBC junior bantamweight title in 2009.

After hearing of Durandt's comments, Sityatha's trainer Lennox Mpulampula said: "We are not worried by what they are saying. We know that Miniyakhe is going to remain the South African champion after the fight."
