Majimbos confident after draw with Zambia

MAJIMBOS are adamant they will eliminate Zambia's Under-17 soccer side from the 2013 African Under-17 Championship despite conceding an away goal in a 1-all draw in the first leg of the qualifiers played at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto at the weekend.

Fargrie Lackay from Santos scored for Majimbos, who are now guided by Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba following the departure of Simon Ngomane.

"I have no doubt we will beat Zambia in their own back yard in two weeks' time. We had no business to draw this match," said Lackay.

"We created many scoring opportunities, which makes me happy because it shows there is light at the end of the tunnel.

"We need to score two early goals in Lusaka in the return match. That will be the end of Zambia in this tournament.

"There is no doubt that we are under tremendous pressure after (Under-20 national side) Amajita were eliminated from the 2013 African Youth Championship qualifiers by Nigeria last weekend.

"It is about time our junior national teams start doing well on the continent and also qualifying for global competitions.

"Our aim is to qualify for the continental championships and also become the first Majimbos side to reach the World Under-17 event," said Lackay.

Mashaba, who is also the coach of the Under-23 national squad, also wants to see Majimbos doing well.
