ORLANDO Pirates coach Roger De Sa, is making plans to use the Fifa international week to try various combinations to intensify the team's challenge for a successful defence of the Absa Premiership title.
"The break is a blessing in disguise for me, it is a chance to have a look at other players in the team," said De Sa.
Players that De Sa and technical staff members Teboho Moloi and Eric Tinkler will spend more time with include Happy Jele, Ayanda Gcaba, Mpho Makola and Khetho Masuku.
While Makola, Gcaba and Masuku are new after joining Pirates in August, Jele has not played for Pirates since suffering an injury last November.
De Sa, a strong believer of the youth policy, is giving his players' time off on Saturday and Sunday during the Fifa international week.
"We are planning to play two or three friendlies during the break. I think we have a great team, the most important thing is to score goals and do well.
"I'm happy that we are beginning to score goals after netting three against AmaTuks. There is light at the end of the tunnel for the team.
"We cannot afford slip-ups after the defeat by Bloemfontein Celtic."
When the former Bafana Bafana, Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper joined Pirates three weeks ago, he made it clear he wants Bucs to continue winning trophies.
"It's a big challenge and we have to do well, I have no doubt we will succeed. Pirates are used to winning trophies and it is a trend we have to sustain."
De Sa is also hoping that their experienced striker Benni McCarthy will be available for their next Premier League match against AmaZulu on October 28.
"We hope Benni will be back, he is a great player. I think he will be on the bench. We are planning to start him from the bench or play him in the second half. He was suffering from a hamstring injury, we are not going to rush him. He is an experienced striker that we have no doubt will help us score."
