WHILE SuperSport United are offering their players R4-million to share should they win the MTN8 final, for Moroka Swallows there is no incentive on the table prior to the final.
Swallows and United will battle it out in the R8-million winner-takes-all final at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday night.
"It's something our players are very much aware of, you can speak to any of them. They get half of the money we win," said United's publicist David "Mazolman" Skosana.
"We will win R8-million on Saturday and there is no doubt about that one, so it means our players will share R4-million. That is in addition to whatever the agreement is between management and individual players. It is working for us and we are happy the players are delivering.
"We have already started creating space in our cabinet for the trophy that we will be winning on Saturday. We cannot afford to disappoint our chairman Bra Khulu Sibiya.
"When this tournament was introduced in 1972, he was a player with Orlando Pirates. He scored two goals to help Pirates win the final against Kaizer Chiefs.
"Bra Khulu will be at the same stadium on Saturday, this time as chairman of our club to receive the trophy after 40 years."
Approached for comment, Swallows brand manager Siya Sangweni said they won't be promising their players incentives ahead of the final.
"We did that when we went to play Pirates in Durban two seasons in the final of the same tournament, the whole bonus issue backfired. That also resulted in the team not doing well in the league and we were almost relegated.
"Naturally, there will be something that they will get, but we will deal with the issue after the final. Everybody is focused on doing well, we don't want to confuse the players."
