Musona eager to end goal drought

FORMER Premier Soccer League top scorer Knowledge Musona, pictured, sets out this weekend to end a one-year scoring drought when he debuts for FC Augsburg in the German Bundesliga.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker, who proved a goal ace during his time in South Africa, has seen his prowess in front of goal dramatically fade since departing Naturena.

He did not manage a single goal at club level last season after a lucrative move to TSG Hoffenheim and has been off-loaded by the German club because he cannot find the net.

Augsburg have paid some R10m for Musona's services on a one-season loan with an option to buy.

But they too are still waiting for the Zimbabwe forward to find the net. He has featured in all of their warm-up games so far this season but been unable to break his duck.

The next weeks are crucial for the 22-year-old, whose pace and finishing power made him such a prolific scorer in the PSL. He needs to prove he is capable of bridging the gap to one of the top leagues in Europe.

Augsburg, who desperately held on to survive in their first Bundesliga campaign last season, host newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf in their opening game of the new league season tomorrow.

Musona is expected to be in the starting line-up and be given at least a few more matches after that to make his mark.
