Heartland, Stars hold nerve to book final date

LAGOS - Heartland and Lobi Stars will meet in the Nigerian Cup final in Lagos on Sunday after they won their semifinals on penalty shootouts.

On Wednesday, holders Heartland edged past lower league Prime FC 3-0 on penalties after the full- time scores were tied at 0-0 in Ilorin.

The other semifinal between Kano Pillars and Stars was also decided after a shootout as both teams failed to score after 90 minutes of action.

Stars qualified for the final 5-4 on penalties after Pillars defender Nazifi Amani failed with the final kick.

"Our dream of getting the (league and cup) double is still intact and so we are going for the trophy," said Stars captain Terna Ikpeen.

Stars won the cup in 2003, beating Sharks 2-0 before losing 6-5 on penalties to Enyimba in the 2005 final.
