Life after Igesund

MOROKA Swallows hope to start a new chapter after the departure of coach Gordon Igesund to Bafana Bafana by flying into the MTN8 semifinals with an emphatic win over AmaZulu at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday at 3pm.

Igesund has been replaced by his former assistant, Zeca Marques, who has made it clear he is equal to the task of helping the team fly higher and higher.

Swallows winger Bongani Thwala said: "Coach Zeca is a very knowledgeable man. There won't be many changes because he worked closely with Gordon in the past two seasons.

"People need to give him (Marques) a chance to settle down. Swallows will do very well in both the league and cup competitions this season.

"We expect a tough match from AmaZulu but it is unfortunate their campaign in this tournament will start and end on Sunday.

"We are playing at home and have no business losing. First impressions last longer, we have to win convincingly to show the people that we will be unstoppable this season," said Thwala.

Usuthu midfielder Stanley "Bingo" Kgatla countered: "We are bringing along a (pair of) scissors to clip their wings; they will be grounded. We want to start the new season with a bang by winning not only Sunday's game, but the tournament."

In the absence of the injured David Mathebula, Swallows will rely on the likes of Siyabonga Nomvethe, Lefa Tsutsulupa and Joseph Makhanya to get a win.

Besides Kgatla, Usuthu have quality players Prince Hlela, Tsweu Mokoro and Kagiso Senamela, who are capable of embarrassing the Dube Birds in their own back yard.
